Name: Michele Turk, Founder, A Bloc of Writers, Inc.

Michele has worked as a professional writer and editor for the past two decades. Since landing her first job as a junior editor at American Health magazine (a Reader's Digest publication), she has published articles on a wide range of topics, including health, education, parenting and business. Her work has appeared in many national publications and websites, among them BusinessWeek, Parents, U.S. News & World Report, Shape, Glamour, Elle, The Washington Post and USA Weekend. She is the co-editor of "Ink Stained," a collection of essays by the members of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism Class of 1992, and the author of "Blood, Sweat and Tears: An Oral History of the American Red Cross." Michele also worked as an adjunct professor of journalism at Quinnipiac University. She took over as president of the Connecticut Press Club in 2015.

Name: Daisy Florin

Daisy is a writer and editor whose personal essays have been published in many publications. A former book editor at a New York publishing house, Daisy has edited personal essays for Brain, Child Magazine and is a recipient of the 2016 Kathryn Gurfein Writing Fellowship from Sarah Lawrence College. Daisy is also a teacher who taught at the Brearley and Dalton Schools in New York. She has worked as a tutor for children of all ages.

 


Name: Natalie Axton

Natalie was born in Louisville, Kentucky and moved to New York to attend Columbia University. After graduating Natalie worked in various bookstores, the development office of a private school and a commercial real estate office, and she did a stint assisting a Broadway theater producer before finding her way to writing as a profession. In 2010, she was awarded an NEA Arts Journalism Institute fellowship at the Columbia Journalism School. Her journalism and creative writing have appeared in local, national, and international magazines. She has experience writing copy for retailers and online guidebooks as well as for clients in the travel and wine/spirits industries. Since moving from New York City to Westchester County in 2011, she has also taught SAT verbal test prep and worked as a writing tutor.

Anjali has always had a passion for shaping words into stories. With over 10 years of experience mentoring students on their college admissions journeys, including perfecting their application essays, she is committed to helping students find their unique voice. Prior to working with A Bloc of Writers, Anjali successfully led a 25-person college admissions consultant team for three years as the Consulting Operations Manager for the Bay Area’s largest educational consulting firm. Her experience there included assisting dozens of students gain entrance into the Ivies and other top institutions by helping them identify the strongest direction for their overall application based on their varied life experiences.
